Happy Birthday (Painted Harvest)

Hi, I know I have been posting a LOT of cards using the Painted Harvest bundle set lately (and truth be told, I have more to come)! You’d think I didn’t own any other stamps…and we all know that isn’t true. 🙂 I really want to share how fabulous this stamp set is and how you can achieve so many different, and wonderful, cards using it. I LOVE when I can really maximise my investment in a stamp set and I really want you all to be able to do the same.

For today’s cards, I’ve stepped it up a little by using a stencil and embossing paste. SO FUN!  I had envisaged a scene whereby the flowers climbed their way up a brick wall.  The “brick wall” stencil from the Pattern Party Decorative Masks set was the perfect choice.  I started off by creating two backgrounds using this stencil – one in portrait and one in landscape orientation.  One of the reasons I make multiple cards is that it is easy to do so when you already have your supplies out, especially if it is something ‘messy’ (like embossing paste) or where I think I might make a mistake.

You might notice all of the flowers, on both cards, are not the same size.  I had wanted to layer the flowers but thought they might have looked a little odd if they were the same size.  To ensure they were a little different, I did not stamp the base layer, only the top stamp and then fussy cut around the outside.  I think this tiny detail really helps pull the look together.

For the second card, I had originally thought of adding five flowers in front of the brick wall but when I had it all placed it looked a little too busy. I decided to stick with three (remembering that a odd number of elements generally looks better than an even number) and it looks so pretty!

Don’t you love how two cards using pretty much the same products can look so different! Stamping is so much fun!

Have a great day and thanks so much for stopping by!

Happy Birthday (Painted Harvest)

Hi, I very nearly didn’t share this card with you all today. There’s just something about it which doesn’t work. The reason I am sharing it is that I wanted to show you that not every card is a ‘work of art’ but that doesn’t mean it should be packed away or destroyed. I think someone would still be happy to receive this card. I also have it in the back of my mind that I might be able to re-create it at some stage but in a way which really improves the original design. The card is made using the wonderful Painted Harvest stamp set and coordinating punch.

TIP:
Don’t forget that you don’t have to stick to using the stamps which come in the set; you can mix and match with other stamp sets. That’s what I’ve done for this card. I’ve used the “Happy Birthday” sentiment from the Happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set to make this a birthday card.

Happy Birthday (Falling Flowers)

Hi Everyone, today I’m featuring three cards using the Falling Flowers stamp set.  If you like heat embossing, and really who doesn’t love watching the heat melt the embossing powder to create such a glossy, shiny finish, this style of card might be for you.  I stamped lots of the images from the stamp set using the whisper white ink on whisper white cardstock.  I sprinkled the embossing powder on as I went because it is quite difficult to see white ink on white cardstock.  I then heated all the embossing powder and set to colouring the images.  I squeezed the ink pads so a bit of ink remained on the lid and used this as my palette.  I then painted all the images.  Such a soft pretty look, don’t you think?  All that remained was to die cut the images out and layer them onto the card panel in an appealing way.

For my second card, all I did was substitute the pool party background for crumb cake. I love this look!

If you aren’t a fan of so much white embossing, that isn’t a problem! For the next card, I swapped out the white embossing on the base of the card and used versamark ink in its place. It gives a much softer look.

Can you imagine how pretty this card design might be if you used pink pirouette or wisteria wonder as a base?  Or perhaps, you could do all the stamping with night of navy or early espresso and create a monochromatic look?   Isn’t it so much fun to experiment with colours?

Birthday Blooms

The Birthday Blooms stamp set is, as you can see from my recent posts, a definite favourite of mine. Today I have five cards to share as well as a process video. This time I have used the Stampin’ Write markers to colour the images. My motivation in sharing these cards is to show how you can achieve a different look just by changing up the colouring medium and the colour.

Here’s the video…

I also have a few other cards to share where I have used different colours and design orientation.

For You

This card is almost the same as the above however I’ve tried to make the flowers a softer pink. I haven’t applied as much of the Blushing Bride marker to the image.

For this card, we have moved away from pinks straight to blues. Marina Mist is one of my favourite colours in the Stampin’ Up! range and I’ve been using it a lot recently. I’ve also used the Lots of Labels Framelits dies to make my sentiment stand out. I used two different sizes of the labels dies, however, I ran the larger die through the die cut machine twice as I didn’t want it to be as big as it is normally. I then trimmed off any excess. I also used the Marina Mist ink pad to colour my cardstock as I had run out of the Marina Mist cardstock.

Happy Birthday

For this card, I decided to go for a really soft blue look. I used the Soft Sky Marker to colour the petals. I then added more of this colour to the areas where I needed it to be darker. In some places, I added two or three layers of colour. I also matted the stamped panel on Soft Sky cardstock.

For the final card, all I did was change the orientation, so don’t forget that is always an option when you are creating.

Thanks for stopping by and viewing my cards and video today. I hope it has been informative. Now it is time for me to give the Birthday Blooms set a bit of a break and give some love to some of my other stamps. Don’t be surprised if it does pop up again soon though as I really do love it!

(Don’t forget about the current Bonus Days promotion throughout July as well as the *fantastic* opportunity for new Demonstrators).
