Create a cool background with the Polished Stone Technique (Video)

by Kylie

Hi everyone, for today’s card, I wanted to try something a little different. It’s a fun technique called the Polished Stone Technique. You will need Glossy cardstock which, unfortunately, Stampin’ Up!® no longer carries or the new Mother of Pearl Specialty paper (which is in the Stampin’ Up!® range and is very similar but has an extra bit of shimmer and shine). I’ve tested it on both papers and they work well. You also need Isopropyl Alcohol (I got mine from Bunnings), cotton balls, and re-inkers – that’s all!

The Polished Stone Technique is super easy and one where you could easily make a whole heap of backgrounds in one sitting. I think it would be a pretty fun way to pass the time too.

The technique is so easy – pick some colours you think might work well together. I chose Daffodil Delight, Pale Papaya, and Polished Pink. Add some Isopropyl Alcohol to the cotton wool and then add a couple of drops of ink as well. Pounce this onto the Glossy cardstock. You’ll end up with a really cool look. I’m also sharing a video showing exactly how to do this technique, and how I created the card below.

This was such a fun card to make! I used the Shaded Summer stamp set. It’s so lovely! As mentioned in the video, I really like how the card looks with the red card base. Which did you prefer? Should I have stuck with the red?

Happy Stamping, Kylie
