December Creative Prompt: You Are Otterly Awesome

by Kylie

Hi everyone, welcome to our Creative Prompt for December 2021. I’d love for you to join in and play along with me.

How to join in…

I’ve created a thread on my Stampers Workshop Facebook page (it is pinned to the top of the page so you can always find it). I’d like to invite anyone who wants to share their take on the challenge to do so in the comments section of that post. You don’t need your own blog, just upload a photograph of your card directly into the comments. Please upload photographs only. Do not link to other blogs or websites. Regrettably, these will be removed. My hope is these Creative Prompts will inspire and challenge us all to create. I also hope that by sharing we can comment, support and encourage each other. I do hope you’ll join me.

Here’s the Creative Prompt…

I thought this was such a fun sketch although I found the concept of four different parts to the background challenging. In the end, I used three different papers and some twine and that really made it easier.

This card features a sneak peek too! The Awesome Otters stamp set is a 2022 Sale-A-Bration offering. It’s the cutest and I know it is going to be a popular choice. This stamp will be available from 4 January 2022.

I started the card by stamping the otter in Memento ink and then colouring with Stampin’ Blends. It’s so cute! I die cut the image with the Layering Circles dies and then it was time to work out the colour combination for the rest of the card. Sometimes I have my colours sorted in advance. Other times I find myself choosing the colours after the focal image has been coloured. I decided to pick up the orange, browns and blues from the image. I layered the image on a scalloped circle die cut from Crumb Cake cardstock.

The card base was created from Night of Navy cardstock which I then embossed with the Hammered Metal 3D Embossing Folder. It gave it such an interesting texture. Next, I layered papers from the You’re A Peach and Regals Designer Series Paper packs.

To add the fourth layer, I tied some Linen Thread around the card. Adding the thread can be done in a couple of ways. You can tape it to the underside of the patterned paper before you stick it down. The other way is to cut a tiny slit into the top of the card. You can thread the thread through and secure it in a bow. If you aren’t a fan of seeing the thread on the inside, you can cut a panel of cardstock or patterned paper and adhere it over the thread.

For the sentiment, I stamped the greeting in Versamark before white heat-embossing. This was then die cut using a die from the Hippo & Friends die set.

The final touch was to add some Wink of Stella to the cute little otter and scatter around some of the water droplet clear epoxy stickers from the Silver & Clear Epoxy Essentials pack.

Here’s the card…

This was fun to make and I think it would make a great masculine card too. You could always drop the bow or turn it into a knot for something different.

If you are inspired by this Creative Prompt please pop on over to my Facebook page and share your card in the comment thread. I’ve pinned the prompt at the top of the page so it is easy to find. I respectfully ask that you only post a picture of your card and do not link to external sites.

I can’t wait to see what you all come up with! It’s such a fun sketch!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Hope you have a great day!

Happy Stamping, Kylie
