Feel Better Friend (Hand-Penned Petals)

by Kylie

Hi everyone, my process for creating changes depending on my reason for creating. Today, I was tidying up my desk and saw the new Hand-Penned Petals Designer Series Paper. I starting flicking through the paper, admiring all the gorgeous illustrations. I was thinking to myself that I’d probably find it difficult to use the floral side of the paper as it is ‘too busy’ for my usual style. It got me thinking that many of you might feel the same way. So I decided to use the paper and create a really pretty, and quite simple, card that shows off this beautiful paper (and not in a busy way).

The card design is quite simple although you can certainly step it up if you choose. Start by selecting an assortment of paper from the Hand-Penned Designer Series Paper pack. Die-cut a rectangle from each using the Stitched Rectangles dies. If you don’t have the dies, simply cut out the rectangles with your Paper Trimmer. Depending on your overall design, you could mat and/or pop up these die-cut shapes. I decided to mat the shapes but not pop them up this time.

I added another design of the Hand-Penner Designer Series Paper to a Soft Succulent cardstock base. I did tuck a piece of the Whisper White Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon underneath before adhering it. Then I added the three panels. I eyeballed this process but you could definitely be a little more exact with the use of a ruler.

The sentiment comes from the coordinating Hand-Penned Petals stamp set. I added a little more interest around the sentiment by adhering some leaves die-cut from the Penned Flowers dies. (Both the stamp set and the die set are available as a Bundle for a 10% discount). The final touch was to add a couple of the Pastel Pearls.

Here’s the card…

I love cards like this. They are pretty, quite quick to make and they enable you to really highlight the busier patterned papers. Although, I suggest avoiding a paper with squiggly lines for the background as I found it difficult to eyeball the placement of my pieces. As a result, my placement is a little crooked. Of course, if you used a ruler, you might have better luck!

All of the products used above are now available in my online store. Hooray! Aren’t we all LOVING the new catalogue?!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Hope you have a great day!

I loved your card with the Hand Penned Petals and I thank your for your creativity. I would so appreciate it if you would just send the dimensions for the card though….What were the dimensions for the three panels? Thank you, Mary June

Thanks so much for your sweet comment, Mary June! To create the panels I used the Stitched Rectangle Dies. The dies make it so easy! The size of the die I used was approximately 7cm x 3.7cm. I then matted it on another piece of cardstock leaving about a millimetre on each side. I hope this helps! 🙂
