Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing a handmade housewarming card I created for a friend who recently moved. I wanted something cheerful and welcoming, and what better way to do that than with a charming neighbourhood scene? I used the Happy Village stamp set by Lawn Fawn to bring the idea to life.
Creating the Scene
To set the scene, I ink-blended a soft blue sky and grassy base. Then I stamped, coloured, and fussy-cut the images to build a happy little street of houses, trees, clouds, and even a car out front with moving boxes on the roof. All of the images were coloured with Copic markers. I popped up a few key elements with foam tape for added dimension.
The background is finished with pink striped paper, which ties everything together and keeps the overall feel warm and friendly. The “congrats on your new home” sentiment is heat embossed in white on a grey strip, grounding the design nicely.
Here’s the card…
The Die Dilemma: Are They Worth It?
Here’s something I have to admit — I didn’t buy the coordinating dies for the Happy Village stamp set. Normally, I don’t mind fussy cutting (it can even be a bit therapeutic), but this time? Some of those pieces were tiny. I managed okay, but the results aren’t quite as clean or polished as they would’ve been with the dies.
It made me reflect on that all-too-familiar crafter’s dilemma: dies are expensive, and sometimes I’d rather use that money on a new stamp set instead. But in sets like this with loads of small pieces, the dies are probably worth the splurge. Lesson learned!
In the end, the card turned out just as I’d hoped — bright, and happy. It felt really good to make something special for my friend’s new beginning, and I hope it brings a smile to her face.
Thanks for stopping by. Let me know — are you Team Dies or Team Fussy Cut?
Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you have a great day!
