Stampers Anonymous Blog Hop #34: Sketch Challenge

Stampers Anonymous Team Blog Hop

Hi, welcome to the Stampers Anonymous Blog Hop day! Thanks so much for hopping with us this month. The theme for our September 2021 Blog Hop is a Sketch Challenge. You can see the sketch below.

Here’s the Challenge…

Sketch challenges are always so fun. Sometimes they can be super challenging as you have to think outside of your regular design process. Other times again, you see a sketch and immediately you know what you are going to do. This card was a little bit of both. Once I decided upon my centre panel, the rest of the card came together quite quickly. I played around with patterned papers from different packs but in the end, I decided to go for quite a neutral, simple design.

I started by stamping the dahlia from the Delicate Dahlias stamp set on Crumb Cake cardstock in Early Espresso ink. Next, I coloured the images with White, Flirty Flamingo and Pumpkin Pie watercolour pencils. Over the top, I applied a light coating of Wink of Stella. TIP: Don’t be too heavy-handed with the Wink of Stella as it may cause your ink to bleed. Once I had finished this step I thought the design needed something else so I lightly applied some Early Espresso Watercolour Pencil to the edge of the dahlias and then blended it out with a Blender Pen. This helped the flowers to pop a little more.

I layered this coloured piece on a panel of Be Dazzling Specialty Designer Paper – such a pretty paper. This was then layered on a piece of Early Espresso cardstock which had been embossed with the Bark 3D Embossing Folder. I mounted this directly onto an Early Espresso card base.

The sentiment was chosen from the Artistically Inked stamp set. I gold heat embossed this on some Early Espresso cardstock and then die cut it using the Messages die. It was then popped up on the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The finishing touches were to add a few Gilded Gems and a gold bow.

Here’s the card…

This card is actually so much prettier in real life. The Be Dazzling Specialty Paper is just so pretty! It’s a great way to add that little extra something special. I had such fun colouring the dahlias too. I hadn’t used the Watercolour Pencils in such a long time.
