September Creative Prompt: So Glad It’s Your Birthday (Counting Sheep)

Hi everyone, welcome to our Creative Prompt for September 2021. I’d love for you to play along with me.

I’ve created a thread on my Stampers Workshop Facebook page (it is pinned to the top of the page so you can always find it). I’d like to invite anyone who wants to share their take on the challenge to do so in the comments section of that post. You don’t need your own blog, just upload a photograph of your card directly into the comments. Please upload photographs only. Do not link to other blogs or websites. Regrettably, these will be removed. My hope is these Creative Prompts will inspire and challenge us all to create. I also hope that by sharing we can comment, support and encourage each other. I do hope you’ll join me.

Here’s the Creative Prompt…

I thought this sketch might be a little challenging at first but the ideas actually came thick and fast. I knew immediately I would be using the super cute Sale-A-Bration stamp set Counting Sheep, and the coordinating Sheep dies to make my card. I’ve had this stamp set on my desk since the start of Sale-A-Bration and I really wanted to make a cute scene with these darling sheep.

I started by making a card base from Thick Basic White cardstock and then layering some pretty patterned paper from the Pattern Party Host Designer Series Paper pack. This is a cute Hostess paper pack.

I then stamped the sheep and party hats in Memento ink before colouring them with Stampin’ Blends. To create the sky background, I die cut the clouds die from the Basic Borders die set and used it as a template. Position the template over your cardstock panel and with a Blending Brush lightly sponge Balmy Blue over it. Start with the Blending Brush on the template so you don’t leave blotches. I love this technique. So simple but so effective!

This sky panel was matted with Balmy Blue cardstock and then adhered directly to the card base. I then die cut some of the clouds from the Sheep die set. At first, I had planned to die cut the clouds from paper and then add some Wink of Stella to make them shimmery. That’s when I spied the Jolly Felt and thought felt clouds would look so cool. I added some Adhesive Sheets to the back of the felt before running it through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine. I also die cut a sun from Daffodil Delight cardstock.

The sentiment was stamped with Versamark and then white heat embossed before being die cut with the Messages die cut. Such a versatile die!

All that was left was to assemble the card and add a little Wink of Stella to the sheep, party hats and the sun.

Lots of Thanks (Penguin Place)

Hi, today I am sharing a super cute, and super easy card featuring the wonderful Penguin Playmates Designer Series Paper pack. This fabulous paper is one that you could choose as your FREE item when you place a qualifying order during Sale-A-Bration. What I love about it is not only the colours and the adorable imagery but that the paper coordinates perfectly with the Penguin Place stamp set and coordinating Penguin Builder Punch (also available as a bundle for a 10% discount).

To create the card, you will need to do some fussy cutting but it isn’t too onerous. Pick out some of the Penguin Playmates Designer Series Paper and cut out the images you like. That’s the hardest part of the entire card.

Next, take a panel of Basic White cardstock and die cut a snowbank with the rounded die from the Basic Borders die set. Adhere this to the pretty Fresh Freesia starry background (from the Penguin Playmates Designer Series Paper). Use a rectangle die from the Stitched Rectangles die set to cut out a focal panel for your card. I decided to mat this on another panel of Basic White cardstock.

While the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine was out, I used the Tasteful Textiles 3D Embossing Folder to add subtle texture to the front of a Fresh Freesia card base. I then added the focal panel to the card. I decided to pop it up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

All you need to do then is position your fussy cut (or punched out) critters on the focal panel. I popped up the bird for a little extra dimension. I also popped up the sentiment which is from the Penguin Place stamp set. The final touch was to add a few clear dots from the Silver & Clear Epoxy Essentials pack.

Create a paper quilt card with the Stitched Rectangles Dies (In Symmetry)

Hi, my friend Emily creates the most gorgeous quilts. You can see some of her work here. Every time she shares with me a photo of her latest project I think, I’d love to be a quilter too. She’s so inspiring. Since I am a paper crafter, I thought maybe I could try quilting with paper instead.

For my paper quilt, I chose the really pretty Sweet Symmetry Designer Series Paper and added some Bumblebee, Flirty Flamingo and Just Jade cardstock to round it out. Fair warning, this card does take a bit of time to prep but there are a couple of things you can do to speed it up. The first thing is to add Adhesive Sheets to the back of your paper. This will help you pull it all together quickly. I also recommend starting with a panel the size of your card base. You can always cut it down to size later.

So, after you’ve added to adhesive to the paper, grab the Stitched Rectangles dies, and start die cutting. It’s repetitive so put on one of your favourite shows, or some music to help the time go. The other thing to be aware of when die-cutting is the direction of the paper. You might want to cut a few in each direction so you can more easily play around with your design. Once everything is cut, pull off the backing and start sticking everything down. If you are worried about the layout, you can always position the triangles in place and play around with your design.

Next up, I cut my quilt to size and then positioned it in the Pretty Flowers Embossing Folder before running it through my Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine. I thought my quilt piece should have that quilted effect but you can skip this step if you prefer.

I then adhered my quilt panel to a panel of Basic White cardstock. This was adhered directly to a Night of Navy card base. (You could pop this up if you prefer).

The sentiment, from the In Symmetry stamp set, was stamped in Night of Navy and then die cut with a die from the Stitched So Sweetly die set. I added some White Bakers Twine behind it and then popped it up on my card. I thought some of the Basic Pearls would be a nice way to finish the card.

Funnily enough, it is actually a very simple card to make. You do need to do a lot of die-cutting but it isn’t too bad. If you use the Adhesive Sheets on the back of the paper, it becomes so simple to easily remove the backing of each die cut piece, then stick it down and move on to the next one.

I hope you’ll give it a go. It was actually super fun to try my hand at quilting but I think I’m going to stick with paper quilting….for now. 🙂

Quick and easy Christmas cards using Patterned Paper (Merriest Moments / Peaceful Place DSP)

Hi, when making Christmas cards it is sometimes fun to create really elaborate and detailed cards. Other times we want to make quick and easy cards. Gorgeous patterned paper makes this process so simple. Today I am sharing three Christmas cards where the Peaceful Place 12×12 Specialty Designer Series Paper is the focus. The sentiment is from the Merriest Moments stamp set.

To start, pick out some of the different patterned papers from the Peaceful Place 12×12 Specialty Designer Series Paper pack and cut them to the size you want. Pay particular attention as to where you are cutting so you make the most of the designs. You will also need to pay attention to the orientation. Some patterns will look better in portrait orientation whilst others will look better in landscape orientation.

The next step really depends on how much you want to step up your card. For all of my examples, I added a border of Silver Foil cardstock. For the first two cards, I tied Silver Trim around some of the panels before popping them up on the Basic Gray card front. The final card was adhered directly onto the card base.

The sentiment, from the Merriest Moments stamp set, was stamped in Versamark ink on Silver Foil cardstock. Be very careful not to smudge this ink as the foil paper has quite a slick surface. If you have an Embossing Buddy, I also recommend using this before you stamp. Add your embossing powder and heat. You can then die cut the sentiment, or trim with your Paper Trimmer and Paper Snips.

For two of my cards, I also added a Vellum die cut circle and positioned the sentiment strips on top. This helped to add a little more interest.

The cards don’t really need much more than that. You could add some of the Subtle Shimmer Sequins, Rhinestones or the Silver & Clear Epoxy Essentials if you felt it needed something extra.

The cards look way better in person. I’m having trouble with my lighting at the moment. They are so lovely and the Peaceful Place 12×12 Specialty Designer Series Paper is so beautiful. This, and all other items used to create the above cards, can be found in my online store.

Happy Birthday (Hand-Penned Petals / Nuts About Squirrels) – CASE the Catalogue

Hi everyone, the samples in the Stampin’ Up!® catalogue are always so inspiring to me. I find they are not only helpful when the mojo goes missing, they sometimes remind you of a technique you might have forgotten, or one you might not have tried yet. So today I am sharing another card which I’ve CASEd (Copy And Share Everything) from the new Sale-A-Bration catalogue. It features the wonderful Beautifully Penned 12×12 Designer Series Paper. The paper pack contains 12 sheets (4 of 3 double-sided designs) and as well as having the nice penned illustrations, the papers also feature basic black and white designs. We are going to use three of the paper designs on our card today and we are going to use the technique of stamping directly onto patterned paper.

To start, select the papers from the Beautifully Penned Paper pack you want to use. We are using the scallop design as our background and we’ve diecut a scalloped border with a die from the Penned Flowers die set. We have used a dark flower paper for our next layer and this as die cut with a Stitched Rectangle die. Next up with used the dot paper and stamped with one of the flowers from the Hand-Penned Petals stamp set. This was then die cut with the coordinating Penned Flowers die. Colour them with your preferred colouring medium.

I stamped the sentiment on a piece of Basic White cardstock and then die cut it with a die from the Tasteful Labels die set. I used the Nuts about Squirrels stamp set for my sentiment.

All that is left is to assemble the card. I also added some of the gold embellishments from the Expressions In Ink Ephemera Pack to add more interest, as well as the Pale Papaya & White Ribbon.

Hi everyone, so what do you all think of the new Catalogue and the Sale-A-Bration offerings? Pretty cool, right? One of the products I love most in the Sale-A-Bration catalogue is the Beautifully Penned 12×12 Designer Series Paper. I love how it coordinates with the current Hand-Penned Suite. In this pack of paper, you get 12 sheets (4 of 3 double-sided designs) and as well as having the nice penned illustrations, the papers also feature basic black and white designs which can be used for just about any project.

Of course, I was so inspired by the samples in the catalogue that…well, I had to CASE (Copy And Share Everything) them. The first card I’m sharing is super simple and I really think you are going to love it and want to try it for yourself.

All you need to do is pick out your patterned paper from the Beautifully Penned paper pack. Place some Adhesive Sheets on the back of this paper. This makes adhering the die cuts to your cardstock base SO much easier. Die-cut a pile of shapes using the detailed die in the Penned Flowers die set. Once you have a pile, take your Pool Party cardstock and create a card base. Remove the backing from the die cuts and position randomly over the card base. Make sure they hang off the edge to create a better look. You can trim off the edges once the card base is covered.

Next up use your Stitched Rectangle dies to cut a mat from the lined patterned paper from the Beautifully Penned paper pack, and a smaller mat from a piece of Basic White cardstock.

There is a little bit of fussy cutting to do. We are going to take the line drawing patterned paper (also from the Beautifully Penned paper pack) and cut out some flowers. These are going to add the final touch to the card.

All that is left now is to stamp the sentiment from the Hand-Penned Petals stamp set onto your Basic White panel and then assemble all the pieces. I adhered the Basic White panel directly onto the striped panel and then popped this up with Stampin’ Dimensionals on my card base. You could adhere this directly if you prefer. I then popped up the fussy cut flowers with Stampin’ Dimensionals. That’s the card finished. You could also add some rhinestones or sequins if you wanted to, or add some Wink of Stella to the flowers as I did.

Isn’t it a super cute card?! Whilst I stamped a ‘thanks’ sentiment, I think it could be used for Birthdays, Just Because, Get Well Soon or even Sympathy cards. August Creative Prompt: Happy Birthday (Artistically Inked)

Here’s the Creative Prompt…

The first thing I thought about this sketch was that it would be an awesome way to highlight some of the gorgeous Stampin’ Up!® Designer Series Paper (selected designs are still on Sale for one more day!). I chose to use papers from the Expressions In Ink Designer Series Paper. I love the gorgeous colours in this set and the gold foiling really adds that extra bit of wow! It then made it a really easy decision to use the coordinating Artisically Inked stamp set for the sentiment. I stamped it in Versamark Ink and heat embossed it with Gold Embossing Powder so that it coordinated with the papers I had chosen.

The next bit was a little bit of a harder for me to make a decision as to what to do. I could have gone with an actual circle like on the sketch and layered something on it. I also thought about replacing the circe with a couple of the floral images from the Artistically Inked stamp set. In the end I went with that gorgeous floral die from the coordinating Artistic die set. I added Foam Adhesive to the Basic White cardstock before I die cut the image so that it would have that extra dimension.

Now you could add some rhinestones, gems or even ribbon to finish off the card but I decided that since it was quite busy already to leave those off this time.

Hi everyone, as I mentioned in my Welcome to July 2021 post, I really loved playing along with the StampingPals challenges so when they went on hiatus I was a little sad. I have found challenges are a great way to think outside my usual way of doing things and so I’ve decided to keep the fun alive with Creative Prompts. Each month I am going to share a Creative Prompt and I’d love for you to play along with me.

Here’s the first Creative Prompt…

The first thing I thought when I saw this sketch was that it would be a perfect way to use Designer Series Paper. Patterned paper is so beautiful – we want to use it and not hoard it. The Bloom Where You’re Planted DSP seemed like it would be perfect with the brick wall paper and the gorgeous foliage and pot plants. So that’s where I started! (The Bloom Where You’re Planted Designer Series Paper is just one of the papers on sale this month at 15% off! Woot Woot).

What I love about this paper is that you can also cut out the elements and make them a focal point of any card design – and that is what I did. The only stamping is in the form of the sentiment which comes from the Best Year stamp set.

Congratulations (Hand-Penned Petals)

Hi everyone, a couple of days ago I took part in the monthly Blog Hop with the Stampers Anonymous team. The theme was to create a card based on a sketch. I struggled a little bit with the design and after I had finished I decided to try and make another one that I liked more. As I was flicking through the catalogue I came across a card (see page 72) which featured fabulous colour combinations and I realised I could use parts of this card for my design. Don’t you just love how awesome the catalogue is for inspiration?!

To make this card I used papers from the Pattern Party Designer Series Paper pack. (This is one of the Stampin’ Rewards you can choose once your order reaches a certain value). I added a little piece of Pale Papaya between the two sections to really give it a nice finish. I didn’t do this step on the card I made the other day and I think, if I had, it would have made all the difference.

The floral image is from the Hand-Penned Petals stamp set. I’ve used Polished Pink, Pale Papaya, Coastal Cabana and Granny Apple Green (stamped off once) to add colour to the image. The sentiment also comes from the Hand-Penned Petals stamp set.

I’m so happy with how this card turned out. As it is quite a busy card, I left it at that but if you felt like you needed to something more then you could think about adding some rhinestones, Genial Gems or the 2021-2023 In Color Jewels – so pretty!
