Thanks (Free as a Bird)

by Kylie

Hi everyone, today I am sharing a really sweet card using the beautiful Free as a Bird stamp set. This has been one of my favourite stamp sets and I hadn’t used it for a while. Of course, now I cannot stop creating with it! The cute birds are so fun to colour.

For the colouring, I used Stampin’ Blends for most of the image. As there aren’t Blushing Bride Stampin’ Blends markers in the range currently, I used the Stampin’ Write marker instead as I wanted their little chests and the flowers to match my cardstock. I simply scribbled some of the Blushing Bride on an acrylic block and then used a Water Painter to pick up the colour. This technique enabled me to add a light wash of colour. So pretty! For the flowers, I coloured directly onto the cardstock.

To create the textured look on the image, I placed the coloured and die cut panel into the Subtle Embossing Folder and ran it through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine. I then removed the panel, rotated it 90° and placed it back in the folder and ran it through the die-cutting machine again. It gave the panel a real linen effect!

While the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine was out, I embossed a panel of Blushing Bride cardstock with the Parisian Flourish 3D Embossing Folder. This is such a gorgeous embossing folder! I wanted to highlight the design so very gently tapped the Whisper White Pigment Ink on the cardstock. As this ink is a pigment you *may* need to heat set it but otherwise make sure it is dry before handling it too much.

For the sentiment, I decided to use the “thanks” die from the Well Written die set. This is such a great die set as it has so many different sentiments you can use. I wanted to make the die POP so I added some Foam Adhesive before I die cut the word. So much easier to add adhesive before you die cut when working with fiddly dies. You can see that the sentiment actually overhangs my stamped panel. I simply die cut the end part of the word again and attached this to the full word. Now it is even across the cardstock.

Isn’t this a pretty card? I love the technique of adding Whisper White ink to the embossed panel. I hadn’t done it in AGES but you know I am definitely going to do this again soon. Have you done this before? I hope you’ll give it a go!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Hope you have a great day!

Happy Stamping, Kylie
