To A Friend That Makes Me Smile (Forever Fern) – Joseph’s Coat Technique

by Kylie

Hi everyone, today I am sharing two cards featuring the gorgeous Forever Fern stamp set.  It’s a great stamp set and I love using it with the Joseph’s Coat Technique.  If you are not sure what this technique is, I recently shared a video showing exactly how to achieve such a cool look.

Usually, when I make cards with the Joseph’s Coat Technique I finish off the card with a black or brown layer of ink.  I’ve also made cards with Night of Navy as the final colour.  I decided to see how some other colours might look.

I decided to stick with the colour palette from the coordinating Forever Greenery Designer Series Paper Pack (even though I am not using the paper for either of my cards).  To create the background I sponged Just Jade, Pear Pizzazz, Garden Green and Soft Sea Foam all over a Whisper White cardstock base.  Don’t worry about how much of a hot mess it looks at this stage…it’s going to end up looking sensational!

It’s really important this ink is completely dry before proceeding.  Either leave it to dry or hit it with your heat tool.  Once dry, try not to touch this panel and use an embossing buddy if you have it.  Stamp the images with Versamark and emboss with clear embossing powder.

The next step is to cover the entire panel with dark ink.  For the first card, I’ve used Shaded Spruce.  For my second card, I’ve used Pretty Peacock.

Here’s my first card

Here’s my second card

I don’t know about you but I love both shades.  Do you have a preference?  Have you given this technique a go yet?  I hope you do.  It really is easy and it packs quite the punch!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Hope you have a great day!

Happy Stamping, Kylie

I LOVE them both! I’m planning to do this with my stamp club next month. I’m waiting for my dies to arrive, but don’t even need them for this technique, thanks for sharing!

Thanks so much, Joyce! You will love this technique. It’s so fun. Just remember to let the ink dry completely (or use your heat gun to dry the ink) before applying the embossing powder. Have fun and thanks so much for commenting.

Kylie, I watched your video after commenting earlier and had to say I SO appreciated seeing that you put all the stamps on one block! I’ve been stamping for years and hadn’t thought of that! lol Just another thought, I’ve always resisted using the Joseph’s Coat technique because I’d only seen it done with black or brown, and I didn’t like that as I thought it too stark, I love that you used two darker greens!

Oh, you are so welcome, Joyce! It makes it so much easier, especially when doing a technique like that! Thanks, heaps! I really think you can use any colour as long as it is dark enough to cover the other inks you have used. I hope you will give it a go now?

Hi,
I just saw your card on Pinterest and had to comment on how beautiful it was. I don’t have that stamp set but I will definitely try it with others.
