Watercolour a bright and happy card (Blessings of Home)

by Kylie

Hi everyone, when I sat down to create I had two things in mind: to make a birthday card and to use bright and happy colours. I spied the Blessings of Home stamp set on the corner of my desk and thought it would be so fun to watercolour the images. That’s how we arrived at today’s card.

I cut a piece of Watercolour paper to the approximate size I wanted. I often use the Stamparatus when heat embossing on watercolour paper as it allows me to double stamp (or more) to ensure good coverage of the ink, especially on the uneven texture of the paper. It’s not necessary but if you are having issues, this might be something that helps! After stamping the large flower image repeatedly over the watercolour paper, I then white heat embossed the images. If you have trouble seeing where you’ve stamped, or the ink is drying too quickly, consider heat embossing in stages.

Once you’ve finished heat embossing the images, take your Water Painters and a selection of coloured ink pads and start painting. I used Pool Party, Fresh Freesia, Pale Papaya, Polished Pink, Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie and Granny Apple Green. I usually smoosh a little ink onto a clear block and use this as my palette.

Once the panel was painted I left it to dry and started working on the rest of the elements. I used the Thick Basic White cardstock to create my base and then added a piece of Polished Pink patterned paper from the 2021-2023 In Colour 6×6 Paper Pack to the front. I thought I was going to add the painted panel to this surface with Stampin’ Dimensionals so added them to the back. Once I positioned it over the card I thought it needed something else, so I cut a panel of Basic White cardstock which was just a little larger than my main panel. I adhered this directly to the card base. Next, I added my popped up main panel.

For the sentiment, I used the birthday greeting (also from the Blessings of Home stamp set) and white heat embossed it on some Polished Pink cardstock. I decided to chop it up and layer it on the bottom right corner. I added a white bow of twine to finish off the card. I decided not to add anything else as I wanted the painted image to be the main focus.

Here’s the card…

This was a fun card to make. I really enjoyed water colouring the images. I feel like I haven’t watercoloured in ages. I hope you’ll give water colouring a go too!
