Let’s CASE the catalogue again: Thank You (All That You Are)

Hi everyone, you know I am a really big proponent of using stamp sets for more than one card. I really want to encourage you to get the most out of everything you buy from me. Plus, I want to encourage myself to do the same. I often make cards where I only vary one or two things such as the colour palette or the sentiment and other times every card I make is quite different from anything I’ve done with the stamp set in the past.

Today I am featuring a CASE of a CASE. What does CASE mean? CASE stands for Copy And Share Everything but you’ll notice we talk about the card as being CASEd. It’s a card you make which has been inspired by the work of someone else. Sometimes it is a fairly faithful replication and other times there might only be selected elements which have inspired you. You must give credit to the original designer especially if you decide to post your version on social media.

Anyway, back to my CASE of a CASE. I recently shared a card inspired by a card featured on page 3 of the Occasions catalogue. You can see that card here. I really loved it and decided I wanted to make it again but this time using Highland Heather as my card base. It’s one of my favourite colours in the range. Oooh, that is a big call, isn’t it? It’s true though.

So, I’m using the All That You Are stamp set and I’ve inked up the large floral image with Highland Heather and stamped all over my cardstock. I stuck with the same colour palette as my original card for the rest of the design –Flirty Flamingo, Petal Pink, Daffodil Delight and Granny Apple Green. I stamped out some of the floral images but reversed the colours for the flowers (the bigger flower is Flirty Flamingo and the smaller flowers are Petal Pink). I cut the flowers out using the coordinating dies from the Frosted Bouquet Framelits dies. I also needed a few more die cut leaves – thank you Rose Trellis die set. I stamped the sentiment, cut some vellum and then layered all the bits and pieces together.

To be honest, I think I prefer this version to my first attempt. What about you? Do you have a preference?

All That You Are CASE the Catalogue Occasions Thank you

Hi everyone, one of the things I’ve been enjoying lately is CASE-ing (Copy And Share Everything) the designs in the catalogues. It makes me think outside my usual way of creating. It also helps me when my mojo seems to be on vacation.

I’m using the All That You Are stamp set again. Isn’t it a beautiful stamp set!? I loved both of the card examples featured on page 3 of the Occasions catalogue and knew I would be CASE-ing them both in due course. What I liked about the card I am sharing today is that there is no colouring (and you all know how much I enjoy colouring) but the card is full of happy colours.

I started with a sheet of Balmy Blue cardstock and cut, scored and folded it to make my card base. Next up I inked up the large floral image in the All That You Are stamp set with Balmy Blue ink and repeatedly stamped it over the card base. I LOVE how this looks.

I grabbed a couple of different colours of cardstock – Flirty Flamingo, Petal Pink, Daffodil Delight and Granny Apple Green. I stamped out some of the floral images and then used the coordinating dies from the Frosted Bouquet Framelits dies. Yes! This die set does coordinate with the All That You Are stamp set too. How cool is that?! I also die cut some leaves using the Rose Trellis die set. The next step was to stamp the sentiment, cut some vellum and then layer all the bits and pieces together and voila it was finished. My card isn’t exactly the same as the one featured in the catalogue but it does come pretty close.

Oh and here’s a little hint too. I usually use the Banner Triple Punch to create my banner but I had put it away and I was too lazy to go and get it. On my craft table, I still had the Tailored Tag Punch so I used this to create the banner look. It was so easy!

I really admire the designers whose cards feature in the different Stampin’ Up! catalogues. They create the most beautiful cards and it is a real delight to recreate their designs or to simply be inspired by their creations. I hope you too are inspired to CASE a card and put your own spin on it.

All That You Are Occasions Thank you

Hi everyone, it’s been a few days since I’ve shared any of my projects. It’s actually been a few days since I have crafted as my partner was home from work (he’s a FIFO worker). We then spent a long weekend away in Eildon (country Victoria, Australia). I had thought about taking crafting supplies with me but decided not to at the last minute. It was an amazing weekend. Such a picturesque spot.

Here’s a look at Eildon pondage…

Isn’t that gorgeous? It was definitely hard to come home and return to the real world on Monday. On the plus side, my craft supplies were at home waiting for me. I felt a little rusty. When this happens I tend towards things I am comfortable with – so colouring was on the agenda. I also decided to go with an old favourite design but I used a new stamp set – All That You Are. Aside from the obvious beauty of the floral images, the sentiments are also lovely.

To create the card, I stamped the floral image all over a piece of Whisper White cardstock. I then coloured in the panel using Stampin’ Blends and decided to go for a bright colour palette. I added Wink of Stella to the blooms to give it that sparkle. It also lifts the entire project.

The sentiment was stamped on Whisper White cardstock and then punched out using the Pretty Label Punch. I did add a few stamped leaves to make it blend into the overall design.

Isn’t it a bright and happy card?! I am going to try it again with a different colour palette too. I also think it would be really pretty if you added some ribbon, or vellum leaves under the sentiment to step up the design a little.

CASE the Catalogue Climbing Roses Occasions Thank you

Hi everyone, one of the colours I am crushing on at the moment, and you might have noticed it, is Highland Heather. It was introduced in the current Annual Catalogue and I just adore it. It really is the prettiest shade of purple. I have to stop myself, mostly unsuccessfully, from reaching for it again and again. Highland Heather is another colour featured in the Gingham Gala 6″x6″ DSP paper pack. It was when I was going through selecting my papers for the cards earlier that I knew I would be making another version of the card I had CASED from the Occasions catalogue. You might remember I have already made two other versions. You can see my first card here and my second card here.

Isn’t the Highland Heather version SO PRETTY!! I love it!

Climbing Roses Occasions Painted Seasons Sale-A-Bration

Hi everyone, do you ever get stuck in a creative rut? Do you use the same stamp sets, the same colouring mediums, and even the same colour palette? I do. I love using certain things and I reach for them again and again. Now, to be honest, whilst I called it a rut earlier, I don’t actually think it is a bad thing. With repetition, we really begin to learn how to use products, techniques and we learn all about colours which work together. I’m actually a big fan of it.

Having said that, today I decided to try and push myself out of my comfort zone. I stayed with a design and technique I am comfortable with but I went for a completely different colour palette! Oh boy, that was hard!

The colour palette I chose was Crushed Curry, Call Me Clover and Mint Macaron. This palette was one recommended by Stampin’ Up! To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of yellow. I like little highlights, for sure, or the odd flower but a card where it is the focus…never.

I CASED the card I made using the Painted Seasons stamp set, the Climbing Roses stamp set and the Rose Trellis bundle. You can see my original card here. I followed the exact same card design only switching out the sentiment.

Here’s the Card…

When I was finished I didn’t like the card. The more I look at it though, the more it grows on me. I’d love to challenge you all to do the same thing. Pick a new colour palette from colours you NEVER (or rarely use) and make a card. You could CASE an old card you’ve made but do try some new colour combinations. You might not think you are going to like the result but you might just stumble across a combination you do love!

CASE the Catalogue Climbing Roses Occasions

Hi everyone, do you ever make a card and you love everything about it so you want to make it again and again? This is what happened to me when I CASED a card from the Occasions catalogue recently. You can see my first card here. I really wanted to make this card again but experiment with some different colour palettes. Since I had originally used the Grapefruit Grove paper from the Gingham Gala 6″x6″ DSP. I turned to this paper pack again to see what other colours might appeal. Of course…you guessed it! They ALL appealed so I started with the Balmy Blue. I am such a fan of this blue. It is so pretty.

To add a little bit of sparkle to the card, I used the Iridescent Sequin Assortment. There is no Balmy Blue in this pack but with the iridescent nature of the sequins, the Pool Party matched beautifully.

Don’t you just love the Climbing Roses stamp set and the coordinating Rose Trellis Thinlits dies (available individually and as a bundle)? Lovely Lattice Occasions Sale-A-Bration Well Written

Hi everyone, today I am showing you another way to use the Lovely Lattice Stamp and the card is inspired by one I made back in August 2018 which you can see here. Often times we think we need to use the stamp exactly as it has been designed – and why wouldn’t we? They always look fantastic. However, if we look at our stamps a little differently we extend the life of them and the results can be pretty fabulous!

For the card below, I used the main floral design however I tried to ink up the flowers only. I then stamped the image all over my panel. Using my Stampin’ Blends, I coloured the image. The Basic Black Dark Stampin’ Blends Marker removed any signs of the lattice part of the stamped image as I coloured in the background.

If you didn’t know any better you’d think the flowers were individual stamps, or maybe a background image, don’t you think? I love this technique. I think it looks so effective!

Lovely Lattice Needle & Thread Occasions Sale-A-Bration

Hi everyone, when I first started my blog I had a few reasons for doing so aside from introducing you all to my small business. I wanted (and still want) this to be a safe place to share ideas, to try new things, to encourage and basically have fun with this fantastic hobby. With regards to encouragement, I not only want to encourage you (and me) to try new things and be proud of your creations (regardless of what you perceive your ‘skill level’ to be) but I want you to USE your supplies and more than once too. Stamps are so fun and it brings me such happiness when I’m in my creative zone. I want you all to feel the same happiness when you create too!

If you have been reading my blog for a while you will have noticed that I love to use the same set (even the same stamp from a set) over and over. Sometimes all I change is the colours I am using especially if it is a stamp set I can colour as I love to colour!

So, today, we return to one of my new favourite stamp sets – Lovely Lattice (which is a stamp set you can choose as your freebie when you place an order of $90 or more during Sale-A-Bration). I cannot tell you how many times I have coloured this image -it’s a lot. What can I say? It’s super cute!

I stamped the floral image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink twice and then used my Stampin’ Blends to colour the images in. After colouring the image, I cut out the image and layered the larger flower on the top. I love how it gives a little extra dimension. It was at this point that I didn’t know which direction to take. I toyed with layering the image on plain cardstock, or on top of an embossed background but nothing really jumped out. I was flipping through my papers and saw the Wood Textures DSP and loved how this wood background really complemented the colours I had used. (Plus I totally love this paper and just don’t use it enough!).

The next design decision to make was how to include the sentiment. Originally I was thinking I would stamp the sentiment on a banner and pop it up on the image. It then crossed my mind that it had been a VERY long time since I had stamped and embossed directly onto patterned paper and so that is the direction I chose to go. I love the look of the white embossed sentiment on the wood paper.

Here’s the card…

Do you ever heat emboss on patterned paper? If you choose the right paper I think it can look so good. You don’t have to use a sentiment on the patterned paper. A solid image or even a fine line image added to a background might just add that extra little bit of flair and really lift your project. It’s always fun to try something a little different!

CASE the Catalogue: Thank You (Needle & Thread)

Hi everyone, have you all had a chance to look at the new Occasions catalogue? As well as showcasing the gorgeous new products, the catalogue features some AMAZING samples. I’ve linked the full Occasions catalogue so you can flip through it. You are going to love all of the examples. One card I loved is on page 38 of the catalogue and that is the inspiration for this card I am sharing today.

I’ve used the Needle & Thread stamp set as well as the coordinating Needlepoint Nook 12×12 Designer Series Paper. This stamp set is one of the new Distinktive Stamp sets. I find that I need to test out the stamp before committing it to my project. Sometimes I feel like I have too much ink on the stamp so I like to experiment first. If you cannot seem to get the right amount of ink, try using a sponge dauber to apply the ink. This is actually my preferred method.

I loved using the die to create a subtle background. It just adds that bit of interest.
