Hi everyone, welcome to the Stampers Anonymous Blog Hop day! Thanks so much for hopping with us this month. The theme for our July 2021 Blog Hop is a Sketch Challenge. We were challenged to create a card based on the sketch featured below.
Here’s the Challenge…
I really like this sketch and I knew exactly what I was going to do as soon as I saw it. It rarely happens for me this way! The Stellar Birthday stamp set had been laying on my desk unused for a week or so. I thought this sketch would be perfect to create a scene of an astronaut child passing by the moon on a dark and starry night.
Here’s the card…
I used a Layering Circle die and cut out a mask from a Post-It note. This was going to be my moon shape. (If you don’t feel like masking, you could simply die cut a circle from Basic White cardstock and stick it down instead). After adhering my mask, I used a Blending Brush to add a layer of Misty Moonlight ink. Then I added a layer of Night of Navy ink. I wanted this to be darker around the edges of my panel. Depending on how juicy your inkpads are, you might find that some of the ink seeps through the mask. Don’t worry about it! In fact, it helps to add a little interest and you then don’t have to try and add anything to make it look more like a moon (well, that’s my theory anyway).
Once you are happy with the colour of this panel, splash some water droplets on it as this will ‘lift up’ the colour in places. Helps it look a bit more like a sky. Then put this panel aside to dry very well. I let mine dry overnight. You could heat it with a Heat Tool, but remove the mask first. Once the panel is completely dry, randomly stamp the stars from the Stellar Birthday set all over this panel with Versamark ink and heat emboss with White Embossing Powder. Put this panel aside. (If the panel isn’t completely dry you will end up with flecks of embossing powder where you do not want them).
Stamp the astronaut in Tuxedo Black Memento ink and colour with your Stampin’ Blends. Cut out the image and add Stampin’ Dimensionals to pop the image up on the card. I added a torn strip of Polished Pink cardstock and a strip of paper from the Expressions in Ink Designer Series Paper pack to the sky panel. The sentiment was stamped in Night of Navy. It was also popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The final touch was to add some silver diamond shaped epoxy stickers from the Silver & Clear Epoxy Essentials pack.
