Create your own patterned paper from patterned paper off-cuts (Perfectly Pencilled DSP / This Birthday Piggy)

by Kylie

Hi everyone, the Perfectly Pencilled Designer Series Paper is gorgeous and one of my favourite things to do with the flower design paper is to cut it apart and use the flowers as a focal element. What this means is that I end up with lots of edge pieces. I don’t want to waste these pieces, so I fussy cut them out and create my own patterned paper and that is how today’s card came about.

I started by finding all the offcuts of the Perfectly Pencilled Designer Series Paper and trimmed them before adhering them to a panel of Basic White cardstock. You could colour them before you adhere them if you want. I coloured them with Daffodil Delight and Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Blends. I also coloured around the images with the Light Pool Party Stampin’ Blends marker. Once this panel was complete, I layered it on a piece of Basic Black cardstock. I added Stampin’ Dimensionals and put it aside.

The card base was made from Pear Pizzazz cardstock. I ran it through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine with the Stitched Greenery die. This die is the perfect way to add a little bit of interest without any additional volume. I also die-cut a label from Pear Pizzazz cardstock with the Fabulous Frames die.

For the sentiment, I stamped the “Thinking of You” stamp from the This Birthday Piggy stamp set in Versamark on Basic White cardstock before black heat-embossing it. I trimmed it so that it would fit inside the label piece.

As I was about to assemble the card I thought it needed something more. I dyed a piece of white Baker’s Twine with Pear Pizzazz ink. After it had dried, I tied it through the label die cut and added it to the top focal piece. I also tied a bow and attached it with a Glue Dot.

Here’s the card…

I really enjoyed creating this card. It makes me happy to use up all those pieces of patterned paper instead of seeing them go into the recycling bin. Do you use all the little pieces like this too? If not, I hope I’ve encouraged you to give it a try!
