Bold and Fun: Creating Masculine Birthday Cards (Giant Outlined Happy Birthday / Lawn Fawn)

by Kylie

Hi everyone! Designing a masculine birthday card that feels bold and fun—without being too fussy or cutesy—can be tricky. For my card, I wanted something eye-catching yet simple. The Giant Outlined Happy Birthday: Landscape die from Lawn Fawn was the perfect choice.

The Design Process

My design process started with the die itself. From there, I turned to patterned paper to determine the colour palette. Instead of selecting my cardstock first, I picked a striped design from the retired Flowers and More paper pack from Stampin’ Up!®. With its mix of blues, greens, and navy tones, it provided the perfect foundation. Matching solid cardstock was then a breeze—I simply pulled coordinating colours from the paper. If you ever feel stuck on colour combinations, starting with patterned paper can make the process effortless!

Why this works for a Masculine card

  • Strong, bold typography – The large, outlined letters make a statement without needing extra embellishments.
  • A structured colour palette – Blues and greens are classic, versatile colours that suit many masculine designs.
  • Minimalist yet impactful – With a strong die-cut as the main feature, the card doesn’t feel overly decorated but still has personality.

Here’s the card…

This card was made for my dad’s birthday. I love how it turned out. It’s fun, bold, and perfect for celebrating him. If you’re looking for a simple way to create striking masculine cards, a statement sentiment die might be the perfect choice for you too!
