Thanks (Rooted In Nature/Well Written) – Joseph’s Coat Technique

by Kylie

Hi everyone,  one of my all-time favourite techniques is the Joseph’s Coat Technique.  I love experimenting with colours and that WOW factor at the end always makes me smile.  Today I am sharing a card using this technique and colours from a recent Stampers Anonymous challenge– Crushed Curry, Calypso Coral and Pretty Peacock.

The technique is so simple.  Sponge on assorted colours of ink.  Don’t worry if it looks like a hot mess.  I promise it gets better.  Make sure this layer dries completely before proceeding.   Once dry, use an embossing buddy, if you have one, to reduce the potential of embossing powder staying where you don’t want it.  Then ink up your stamps with Versamark.  I used stamps from the Rooted In Nature stamp set.  Stamp all over the inked up panel and then emboss with Clear Embossing PowderHeat the powder.

The next step can be a bit scary but it will not ruin your card!  Take a dark colour of ink.  For this card, I used Early Espresso.  Wipe the ink all over the card base.  Once you have covered all of the background, take a soft cloth and wipe the ink off the embossed images.  How good does that look?!

All that is left to do is to finish off your card.  I used the Well Written dies for my sentiment and the butterfly embellishments.

Here’s the card

If you have never seen the Joseph’s Coat Technique before, I have a video here which will walk you through the process.  It’s for a different card but the principle is the same.  Substitute any colours and stamps as you like.   Just remember, the biggest tip is to make sure your ink is completely dry before adding the stamping and embossing.  If you get this right, you’ll be fine!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Hope you have a great day!

Happy Stamping, Kylie
