CASE the Catalogue & then Make It Your Own (Tulip Fields / Flowering Tulips)

by Kylie

Hi everyone, today I am sharing two cards using the Tulip Fields Bundle and the Flowering Tulips stamp set. The first is CASEd (Copy And Share Everything) directly from the pages of the January to July 2022 Mini Catalogue. The second is almost the same but this time I’ve made it more in my own style.

What does to ‘make it more in my own style’ mean exactly?

Basically, instead of copying the card exactly, I’m changing up a few elements which are a bit more in line with my regular way of creating cards. Copying a card can provide you with ideas when you don’t think you have any. It can show you how to use something you are not familiar with and it can also teach you, or reintroduce you to a technique. There’s nothing wrong with CASEing a card (provided you give credit to the original designer if known) but it is also good to try and develop your own style.

So let’s take a look at the card in the catalogue and then how I’ve changed up a few elements to make it more like something I would have created from the outset. For the first card, the main focal panel is not centred and while I do create cards in this manner, it is far more usual for me to centre this panel. I also added a mat because I do tend to mat a lot of focal panels.

Another way I’ve made this card more in my own style is that I’ve chosen some of my favourite colours and used them instead. For example, I’ve used Granny Apple Green instead of Pear Pizzazz and I’ve used Polished Pink instead of Calypso Coral.

If you take a closer look at the second card, you can see I’ve used the Tasteful Textile Embossing Folder to add a little more interest to the card base.

So, while the cards are VERY similar, the second card is a little more ‘my’ style. If you are feeling super adventurous, you could try changing even more elements, or perhaps even using a different stamp set.
